Interactive Maps Beta

This site provides interactive maps for the trails of the Western North Carolina area.

System Requirements:
Unlike much of WNCOutdoors.info, the Interactive Map Browser has certain requirements which must be met in order to use the maps. These have been kept to a minimum in order to ensure the greatest compatibility:

• Screen resolution of at least 1024 x 768
• Modern web browser which supports transparent PNG images. This includes:
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer version 7+
  • Mozilla Firefox 1.5+ or Netscape 8+ (based on Firefox)
  • Opera
  • Safari
  • Konqueror
  • Others may work, but not tested
• Internet Explorer version 6 and below not supported.
• JavaScript must be enabled
• Due to large image sizes, a broadband Internet
  connection is recommended, but not required.

What happened to the SVG maps?
Maps are still produced in the SVG format; however, the raw SVG is no longer used directly in the Interactive Map Browser. This is due to extensive issues with the Adobe SVG viewer application for Internet Explorer, and native SVG support in browsers not being complete enough for acceptable rendering. Instead, maps now use simple transparent PNG images with JavaScript controls.
